Tibet earthquake death toll rises to 126, 3,600 homes destroyed

Chinese state media reported that the latest death toll in Tibet has risen to at least 126, with 188 injured, but there were no reports of deaths elsewhere. Chinese authorities have announced the closure of the Chinese side of Mount Everest for safety reasons. Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered officials to speed up relief efforts and sent Vice President Zhang Guoqing to oversee the work of rescue workers in the affected areas after the earthquake caused severe damage to infrastructure and damaged or collapsed more than 3,600 buildings, most of which were made of rocks, earth and wood.
